The Tesla D: Model S cars feature a second electric motor to drive the front wheels and have a maximum range of 225 to 295 miles on a charge across the three models. This is an increase in range of about 10 miles on a charge over the rear-drive models. According to Tesla, the top-tier AWD P85D model accelerates to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds making it “the fastest accelerating production four-door car ever.”
The 691 horsepower P85D model will start being delivered in December, with the 376 hp 60D and 85D models to arrive in February. Prices begin at $89,570 USD for the 60D up to $97,570 USD and $120,170 USD for the 85D and P85D, respectively.
Musk said that the company is bringing out its new driver assistance tech to market faster than originally anticipated. He added that they can only integrate so much new technology into the products that is allowed by regulations saying, “the level of safety and redundancy is not quite there where you can fall asleep and arrive at your destination.”
According to Musk, drivers can summon the car if on private property or rendezvous with it at a designated meeting point. Drivers can also voice control the car, for instance, they can hop out and tell it to go and park itself in the garage. This thing is sweet!
